FISHING REPORT FOR OCTOBER 7, 2009

CENTRAL

Overholser: October 5. Elevation 3-4 ft. below normal. Striped bass hybrids good to excellent off windy shores. Catfish fair. Crappie fair. Report submitted by Ron Comer, game warden stationed in Canadian County.

Wes Watkins: October 5. Elevation normal and murky. Largemouth bass fair in the evening around timber on the west side of the lake. Channel catfish good on chicken liver and worms. Crappie fair to good along the dam and timber on the west side. Report submitted by Mike France, game warden stationed in Pottawatomie County.

NORTHEAST

Eucha: October 5. Elevation slightly below normal, water 69 and murky. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows around brush and structure at 12-14 ft. Largemouth bass fair on topwater baits around grass beds. Report submitted by Dwight Moore, City of Tulsa Fisheries.

Ft. Gibson: October 5. Elevation 3 1/2 ft. above normal and stained. Catfish good using cut bait and hot dog chunks in the mouths of the creeks. White bass good jigging spoons and jigs at 15-25 ft. around structure. Crappie good at 10-20 feet using minnows. Largemouth bass are good using crank baits and spinnerbaits at 2-15 ft. Greenleaf: October 5. Elevation normal. Largemouth bass good on spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs and worms along riprap, brush structure and shoreline. Catfish good on fresh bait on bottom near spillway and upper creek. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around fishing dock and brush structure. Hudson: October 5. Elevation normal. Largemouth bass good on rattletraps and small crankbaits. Crappie fair to good on jigs and minnows. Report submitted by Steve Loveland, game warden stationed in Rogers and Mayes counties.

Kaw: October 5. Blue catfish fair on blood bait and goldfish in Arkansas River. White bass are good trolling chrome or shad-colored crankbaits around main lake sandy points. Channel catfish good in Beaver Creek arm of lake on stink bait fished around submerged trees. Report submitted by Marshall Reigh, game warden stationed in Grant County.

Lower Illinois: October 5. Elevation normal, water 58 and clear. Largemouth bass good on topwater. Striped bass good on live bait at 1-2 ft. below Gore Landing. Channel catfish good on cut bait on bottom. Trout excellent on flies along the top of the water, rooster tail at 1-2 ft. and power bait on bottom above Gore Landing. Report submitted by D. Oologah: October 5. Elevation 2 1/2 above normal and falling. Crappie fair around bush piles at 10-15 ft. on minnows and jigs. Channel and blue catfish fair on shad below the dam. Report submitted by Brek Henry, game warden stationed in Rogers County.

Skiatook: October 5. Elevation 1 ft. below normal, water 70 and clear. Crappie good on minnows and jigs at 10-15 ft. around brush piles. Report submitted by Paul Welch, game warden stationed in Osage County.

Sooner: October 5. White bass and striped bass hybrids fair on live shad and slabs. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around brush piles. Report submitted by Doug Gottschalk, game warden stationed in Noble County.

Spavinaw: October 5. Elevation slightly above normal, water 70 and murky. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows around the dam area. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits. Report submitted by Dwight Moore, City of Tulsa Fisheries.

Tenkiller: October 5. Elevation 4 1/2 ft. above normal, water 71-72 and clear. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits at 5-7 ft. Sunfish good around docks on worm-tipped jigs. Report by Monte Brooks Cookson Village Resort.

Webbers Falls: October 5. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits and crankbaits in creek channel along riprap. Catfish good on fresh bait on bottom. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 15-18 ft. around bridges and brush structure. Report submitted by Lark Wilson, game warden stationed in Muskogee County.

NORTHWEST

Canton: October 5. Elevation 1 ft. below normal. White bass and striped bass hybrids good on drifting shad and slabs near drop off. Channel catfish good on shad along north shore. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs near brush piles along the dam and Candian area. Report submitted by Mark Walker, game warden stationed in Blaine County.

SOUTHEAST

Arbuckle: October 5. Elevation normal, water 73 and stained. Crappie on docks and brush piles at 15-18 ft. on marabou white jigs. White bass still chasing shad moving towards creeks, use rattletraps, small chugbug good when on top. Bass are scattered through out the lake, dropshot, Carolina-rigged lizards, crankbaits and topwater good. Report submitted by Jack Melton.

Blue River: October 5. Elevation above normal, water 60 and murky. Bass fair on topwaters early and late. Channel catfish good on stinkbait and night crawlers. Flathead catfish fair to good on live minnows or sunfish. Report submitted by Matt Gamble, biologist at the Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area.

Broken Bow: October 5. Bass can be found schooling in the morning and evening on rapala at 8-10 ft. Catfish fair on cut bait on juglines and trotlines. Crappie good on minnows or jigs around structure and standing timber at 20-25 ft. Report submitted by Dru Polk, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.

Eufaula: October 5. Elevation 1/2 ft. above normal and clear. Largemouth bass good on crankbaits and spinnerbaits off windy points. White bass good on crankbaits trilling the flats and off windy points. Blue catfish good on fresh shad drifting the flats. Crappie good on minnows or jigs at 10-15 ft. around bridges and standing timber. Report submitted by Ed Rodebush, game warden stationed in McIntosh County.

Hugo: October 5. Elevation 2 1/2 ft above normal. Crappie and bass slow to fair on minnows. Blue catfish fair on cut shad in the main lake. Blue catfish good on cut bait below the dam. Report submitted by Jay Harvey, game warden stationed in Choctaw and Bryan counties.

Konawa: October 5. Elevation normal, water 75 and clear. Largemouth bass good on crankbaits, plastic worms along points, roadbeds inside 8 ft. Report submitted by Daryl Howser, game warden stationed in Seminole County.

Lower Mountain Fork River: September 30. Zone 1 good. Zone good 2 good. Good flies have been mostly small midge patterns, Zebra midge, UFO, diamond midge, along with most of the soft hackles. Early and late in the day, small dry flies have been producing well and try an adams, elk hair caddis, PMD and light cahill. Report submitted by Sid and Peggy of beaversbendflyshop.com.

McGee Creek: October 5. Elevation 3 1/2 inches above normal, water 70 and clear. Largemouth bass good on blue-black, and pumpkin seed sinkos at 15-28 ft. Crappie good around cedar brush on minnows and jigs. Channel catfish fair to good on jug lines with minnows and goldfish. Report submitted by Larry Luman, game warden stationed in Atoka County

Pine Creek: October 5. Elevation above normal and clear. Bass fair on crankbaits around points. Crappie are still good on minnows in submerged tops near the mouth of creek channels. Catfish fair on trotlines baited with catalpa worms. Report submitted by Mark Hannah, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.

Sardis Lake: October 5. Bass good in grass using spinners or plastics. Crappie excellent on pink grubs or green and black around cover and off of Jack Fork bridge, half bridge and tower using live minnows and in timber on east side of Bohanan Ridge. Flathead catfish fair on shad, sunfish or goldfish on jugs or trotlines off points close to channels. Blue and channel catfish excellent on jugs and trotlines on cut bait or shrimp or shad off points and close to channels. White bass fair trolling around islands and east side lake by tower and excellent when found surfacing on lake. Walleye fair trolling around islands on rattletraps. Texoma: October 6. Elevation normal, water 76 and clear. Largemouth and smallmouth bass fair to good on spinnerbaits around the riprap. Striped and white bass fair to good on live bait, surface baits and sassy shad, from Catfish Bay to the south. Channel and blue catfish fair to good on live bait and cut baits from the hwy 70 bridge north. Crappie fair to good on minnows in the oxbow lakes with clear water. Sunfish good on worms around the fish attractors and fishing docks. Report submitted by Danny Clubb, game warden stationed in Bryan County.

SOUTHWEST

Altus-Lugert: October 5. Elevation 25 ft. below normal. Walleye and striped bass hybrids good. Catfish fair to good. Crappie fair to poor. Report submitted by Sue Hokanson, Quartz Mountain State Park.

Foss: October 5. Elevation 2 ft. below normal, water 68 and clear. Gates closed. White bass fair. Report submitted by Eric Puyear, B & K Bait House.

Tom Steed: October 5. Elevation normal and murky. White bass, striped bass hybrids and crappie fair on minnows in the mouth of the channel near the dam. Report submitted by David Smith, game warden stationed in Kiowa County.
