FISHING REPORT FOR JANUARY 20, 2010
NORTHEAST
Ft. Gibson: January 16. Elevation 1 1/2 ft. above normal and clear. The surface of the lake has started to thaw and a lot of the boat ramps are open. Crappie fair around docks and deep water structure. Report submitted by Rick Stafford in Wagoner.
Lower Illinois: January 14. Elevation normal, water 45 and clear. Striped bass fair on jigs at 1-3 ft. below Gore Landing. Striped bass hybrids good on jigs at 1-3 ft. below Gore Landing. Channel catfish good on cut bait on bottom all along the river. Crappie fair on jigs at 1-3 ft. in coves. Trout good fly-fishing the surface, on rooster tails at 1-2 ft. and on power bait on bottom above Gore Landing. Report submitted by D. Tracy, Town of Gore.
Sooner: January 19. White bass and striped bass hybrids fair on sassy shad and topwater lures in the discharge and good on live shad. Report submitted by Doug Gottschalk, game warden stationed in Noble County.
Tenkiller: January 18. Elevation 1/2 ft. above normal, water clear and steady. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits at 8-10 ft. Crappie slow on jigs at 15-25 ft. deep in the upper end around brush piles. Catfish fair on flip-flops at 40-60 ft. in the mid to lower end of lake. Report by Monte Brooks Cookson Village Resort.
NORTHWEST
Canton: January 18. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs near brush piles along Canadian area. Report submitted by Mark Walker, game warden stationed in Blaine County.
SOUTHEAST
Arbuckle: January 16. Elevation 1/2 ft. above normal, water 40 and clear to stained up creeks. White bass hitting spoons at 45 ft. off drop-offs. Crappie hitting at 25-28 ft. on brush piles. Bass hitting crankbaits, drop-shot rigs and jerk baits. Report submitted by Jack Melton.
Broken Bow: January 17. Catfish being caught on juglines with cut bait and shad. Walleye should be getting better in late January and early February close to rivers. Report submitted by Dru Polk, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.
Eufaula: January 18. Elevation normal, water murky. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around boat docks baited with brush. Report submitted by Ed Rodebush, game warden stationed in McIntosh County.
Hugo: January 17. Elevation 1 ft. above normal. Crappie and catfish fair below the dam. Report submitted by Jay Harvey, game warden stationed in Choctaw County.
Konawa: January 18. Elevation normal, water 41 and clear. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits at 8-10 ft. around points and road beds. Report submitted by Daryl Howser, game warden stationed in Seminole County.
Lower Mountain Fork River: January 14. Lots of fish in the river. The fishing is great. Also we will be getting six unscheduled stockings in the next few weeks for zones 2 and 3. The first of these stockings occurred on Wednesday, Jan 13. Over the next three months, more than 40,000 rainbow trout will be stocked at the Lower Mountain Fork River in southeast Oklahoma thanks to six additional loads of fish that that will be released into the river. Regular bi-weekly stockings also will continue. Tiny flies have been the fly of choice for most anglers. Midge patterns have been the star of the show. McGee Creek: January 17. Elevation 1 ft. above normal, water 39 and clear. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 16-25 ft. Crappie best off of creek channels around submerged brush. Report submitted by Larry Luman, game warden stationed in Atoka County.
Pine Creek: January 18. Elevation above normal, water murky. Crappie fair on jigs near tops in deep water. Catfish fair on juglines with cut shad in deep water. Report submitted by Mark Hannah, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.
Robert S. Kerr: January 19. Elevation normal, water murky. Crappie fair on small minnows and jigs drift fishing the Big San Bois Creek arm. Largemouth bass and the white bass slow. Catfish fair on fresh shad and fishing the break off points between shallow water and the deeper creek and river channels. Report submitted by Leland Sockey, game warden stationed in Haskell County.
Texoma: January 17. Elevation normal, water 46 and clear. Largemouth and smallmouth bass fair to good around riprap and rocky points. Striped and white bass fair to good around the points and river channels. Blue catfish fair to good from Platter Flats north. Paddlefish fair to good below the dam. Wister: January 17. Elevation normal, water murky. Largemouth bass good on soft plastic worms and spinnerbaits. Crappie fair on small spinnerbaits, minnows and pink jigs. Channel and blue catfish fair on juglines with cut shad and liver. Report submitted by Randy Fennel, game warden stationed in LeFlore County.
SOUTHWEST
Altus-Lugert: January 17. Elevation 20 1/2 ft. below normal and rising slowly. Striped bass hybrids slow to fair. Report submitted by Sue Hokanson, Quartz Mountain State Park.
Ellsworth: January 17. Elevation normal. Crappie good on minnows and jigs at 12-17 ft. Blue catfish fair on cut bait. Report submitted by Mike Carroll, game warden stationed in Comanche County.
Foss: January 20. Elevation 1 1/2 ft. below normal and gates closed, water 40s and clear. Most of the ice has melted away from ramps. Walleye slow and located in deep waters. Striped bass hybrids slow on slabs. Crappie slow on live bait around fish house. Report submitted by Eric Puyear, B & K Bait House.
Tom Steed: January 18. Crappie fair on minnows at 20 ft. over brush piles near the dam. Report submitted by David Smith, game warden stationed in Kiowa County.
